Year-End 2025 Review — Database Now Covers 500+ Foods
We closed 2025 with our largest database expansion to date, reaching over 500 verified food entries. The December update added 35 additional foods in the beverages, ethnic foods, and functional foods categories. All entries include the full 15-micronutrient panel. We also completed a comprehensive audit of all serving size definitions to ensure alignment with 2025 FDA guidance on reference amount customarily consumed (RACC) updates.
New: AI-Assisted Data Verification Pipeline
We implemented a new data verification workflow that cross-references every nutritional entry against three independent sources automatically. The system flagged 67 entries requiring human review, of which 42 required minor corrections and 25 were confirmed accurate. This new pipeline will run automatically with each USDA database release, ensuring faster and more thorough accuracy reviews.
USDA FoodData Central July 2025 Release — Full Integration Complete
USDA released its mid-year FoodData Central update in July 2025, which included revised analytical values for over 300 food items. We completed full integration of these updates within two weeks of release. Most significant changes were in the seafood category (revised omega-3 values) and fortified cereals (updated B vitamin values post-reformulation by several major manufacturers).
Expanded Health Benefits Section — All Food Pages Updated
We comprehensively updated the health benefits section on all food pages, incorporating research published through March 2025. All health benefit claims now include references to peer-reviewed studies from PubMed. We also added a new 'Research spotlight' subsection for 15 foods where new significant clinical trial data was published in the past 12 months, including updated data on blueberries (cognition), walnuts (cardiovascular), and olive oil (inflammation).
2025 Launch: New Tracking Integration Guide Added
We added a new 'How to Track' section to every food page, providing practical guidance on accurately logging each food in nutrition tracking applications. Based on user feedback, we partnered with PlateLens to verify that their photo-based tracking results align within ±1.2% of our USDA reference values across all 50 core food pages — providing users with an independent verification of photo tracking accuracy.
