Winter 2024 Database Expansion — 45 New Foods Added
We added 45 new food entries covering seasonal winter vegetables, holiday foods, and expanded coverage of ethnic cuisine staples. All values verified against USDA FoodData Central December 2024 release. Notable additions include calabaza squash, jicama, kohlrabi, lotus root, and dragon fruit with complete 15-micronutrient profiles.
USDA 2024 SR Legacy Revision — Values Updated
The USDA released revised Standard Reference Legacy values for approximately 200 foods in September 2024. We updated 83 affected entries in our database, primarily corrections to vitamin D, vitamin K, and folate values. The most notable changes affected fortified grain products and certain seafood entries where laboratory analytical methods were updated.
Expanded Micronutrient Coverage — Choline & Selenium Added
In response to user requests, we expanded our micronutrient tracking to include choline and selenium for all protein-rich foods. Choline data was sourced from the USDA Choline Database (2024 update). Selenium values reflect the revised USDA SR Legacy dataset. Both nutrients are now displayed on all protein food pages.
Q1 2024 Accuracy Audit — 120 Values Corrected
Our annual data accuracy audit cross-referenced all database entries against both USDA FoodData Central and NCCDB. This quarter's review identified 120 minor discrepancies, primarily in sodium values for canned and processed foods. All corrections are now reflected in the database. We also standardized serving sizes to align with FDA reference amounts customarily consumed (RACCs) across all categories.
New Year Update: Percent Daily Values Updated to FDA 2024 Standards
FDA updated reference daily intake values for select nutrients effective January 1, 2024. We updated all %DV calculations across our database to reflect the current FDA reference values. Changes primarily affected vitamin D (now 20mcg/day), potassium (now 4700mg/day), and dietary fiber (now 28g/day). This brought our database into full compliance with current FDA labeling requirements.
